Introductory Rites

Blessing of the Advent Wreath

Heavenly Father, we look forward to the celebration of Christmas and to the coming of the Lord in glory. Bless this Advent wreath, and bless us all. As we pray, fill us with your love, and strengthen us for our work in the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The first candle is lit

Loving God, as we begin this Advent, give light to our eyes and peace to our hearts. May the Lord who will come again find us watching and waiting in joy. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Greeting

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The grace and peace of God the Father and the Lo rd Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Greeting of Peace

We are the body of Christ.
God’s Spirit is with us.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Wait for the Lord, whose day is near. Wait for the Lord. Keep watch. Take heart.

Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God, the Father almighty.

May the Lord accept our sacrifice
for the praise and glory of God’s name,
for our good, and the good of all God’s holy Church.

Communion rite

This is the truth sent from above,
The truth of God, the God of love.
Therefore don’t turn me from your door,
But hearken all, both rich and poor
The first thing which I do relate
Is that God did man create;
The next thing which to you I’ll tell,
Woman was made with man to dwell.
Thus we were heirs to endless woes
Till God the Lord did interpose;
And so a promise soon did run
That He would redeem us by His Son.
And at that season of the year
Our blessed Redeemer did appear.
He here did live and here did preach
And many thousands he did teach.
Thus He in love to us behaved
To show us how we must be saved,
And if you want to know the way,
Be pleased to hear what He did say.

Vaughan Williams

Communion Antiphon – Psalm 84.13

The Lord will bestow his bounty, and our earth shall yield its increase.

Prayer after Communion

Let us pray.
God for whom we wait,
you have fed us with the bread of eternal life.
Keep us ever watchful,
that we may be ready to stand before the Son of man.
We ask this in the name of Christ the Lord. Amen.

Blessing and Dismissal

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Christ the Sun of Righteousness shine upon you,
and make you ready to meet him when he comes in glory;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, X and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.

For the postlude some wonderful organ music from Bach, Now Come, Saviour of the gentiles
